It’s time to start the work week with another round of NHL rumours. The end of the NCAA men’s hockey season means some prospects could be signed by teams. There have been a few signings like Matthew Knies with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Montreal Canadiens even inked players Sean Farrell to deals. However, the Habs are await a Lane Huston decision about his future. This edition of NHL rumours looks at that decision.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.
Canadiens Waiting For Lane Hutson Decision
Rumour: Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman weighed in on the Boston University product’s future during Saturday’s Headlines segment. Friedman said the Canadiens are waiting to see what the 62nd pick in the 2022 NHL Draft will do. The 19-year-old had a blockbuster season with the Terriers with 15 goals and 33 assists. Canadiens fans would love to have the young defenceman in the fold.

However, Hutson does have his brother, Quinn, on the team and the lure of playing together is great. Boston University also made the Frozen Four and there may be a chance for the team to win a national championship. Hutson also won a bronze medal at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Impact of Lane Hutson Decision
The Canadiens were eliminated from Stanley Cup playoff contention a while ago. Hutson might be more tempted to sign a la Cole Caufield if Montreal was in the post-season. However, Hutson may want to stick around the collegiate ranks for at least another year.
The good news is it’s not terribly urgent that the Canadiens ink Hutson. They have time to get a deal done for the North Barrington, Ill. native. Montreal has an exciting array of young prospects and Hutson just adds to that. General manager Kent Hughes and president Jeff Gorton have done well to get some enticing players in the fold.
