Montreal Canadiens Lose Forward for Remainder of the Season

March 1, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Kirby Dach

The Montreal Canadiens have some disappointing news to announce on this Friday afternoon. Forward Kirby Dach has an injury and now the timetable is in. He will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season. Dach seemed to suffered the injury in the Canadiens 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

L’attaquant Kirby Dach a subi une opération au genou droit. L’opération a été réalisée avec succès par le Dr Thierry Pauyo à Montréal et une guérison complète est attendue avant le début de la prochaine saison.

Canadiens Kirby Dach has Season-Ending Injury

Dach had been having a decent, not great, season up to this point. In 57 games played, he has ten goals and 12 assists for 22 points. That pace was definitely off his career best 2022-23 campaign when he had 38 points in 58 games. Furthermore, Dach’s line has been decent as well, from not being in a top line role, more of the supporting cast. He’s mostly played with Patrik Laine and Alex Newhook. The trio has an expected goal rate of only 41.1%, but are efficient with an actual goal rate of 47.4%.

Unfortunately for Dach, injuries have been a recurring theme for the 24-year-old, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native. This is only his sixth NHL season, and he’s missed the majority of two of them with injuries.

Dach was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round, 3rd overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Life without Dach

Fortunately for Montreal, they do have some recruits for the spot. Owen Beck recorded his first career point last night. Also, Joel Armia has played with Newhook a fair bit this season. It is unfortunate for the Habs overall and very much so personally for Dach. However, he did get a strong sample in this year to prove his worth into next year. Also, Montreal is doing well recently. Their three-game winning streak has them working their way into the Eastern Conference Wild Card picture. If Dach’s replacement can succeed, maybe it will keep the good times rolling for the team.
